This mornings daily vocabulary alerted me to the word, blarney. In definition it means: deceptive or misleading talk; nonsense; hooey! I added the exclamation mark, since I use hooey all the time! But this post isn't about the vocabulary word, it's about the place.
Blarney Castle is located just outside of Cork, Ireland. It is most famous for its Blarney Stone and the magic that happens when one kisses it. Have any of you done it? Certainly there's no kissing stones now. But before Covid, 400,000 people would take part in this ritual every year, in hopes to be instantly granted the "gift of gab."
I visited this castle once when I was a kid. My mother was the only one out of the four of us, who took on this tradition. After she gave that 330 million year old stone a smooch she instantly said, "Yeck, someone had fish!" thus the memory took.
Who would have thought a vocabulary word this morning would create an instant memory, chuckle and laugh. Looks like Shrimp 'n Lobster are taking a trip to ole Blarney Castle.
