The Great American Rail-Trail!

Biking across the country is no easy feat. I've done it once, but as the sag wagon driver. This cross country ride feels somewhat of a rite of passage as you bump into other cyclists discussing routes, weather and the best places to stay. Overall a general comradery forms as you travel along some seriously sketchy highways. Nothing looks more terrifying than a semi truck screaming down the highway with an 85 year old step-dad biking along the side of the road. So when I came across the development of a bike trail that crosses the country, I couldn't help but give a thumbs up of approval....even if I'm not much of a biker.

“We believe the Great American Rail-Trail will be a transformative project for the nation, as it magnifies on a grand scale the benefits that trails have delivered to communities for decades, Whether bridging gaps within and between communities, creating safe walking and biking access to jobs, transit, shopping and green space; or serving as recreation for cyclists, runners and casual daily explorers, this will be America’s trail.

Ryan Chao, president of Rails-to-Trails Conservancy

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy has taken on the task to build this epic ride. It's not exclusive to bikers, anyone can hit the trails and go exploring, just leave the car at home! The trails cross over 3700 miles crossing from town to town.

When it's complete, will you be the first to explore the cross country adventure? I can tell you first hand, it's a beautiful trip. Who knows, maybe this epic path will become the new Pacific Crest Trail for bikers and walkers. Either way you can count me in! And I'm sure Shrimp 'n Lobster will be there too.
